Fri, April 2, 2004 - 6:20 AMI'm just going to give a list of 5 of my favorite producers that i can think of at this time. And why i like them is because they still sample their beats (i'm not to keen on keyboard type beats)
In no particular order
1.Madlib
2.Pete Rock
3.Premier
4.Metal Fingers

he's been working w/a lot of live musicians lately. smart though, cuz you get the live feel w/o having to clear samples...
<4.Metal Fingers>

Mon, April 5, 2004 - 9:29 AMwhat about Doc. (Esthero) -

This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Tue, April 6, 2004 - 3:33 AMdoc who left esthero hi & dry to work with res?
overrated.
everything esthero works on does well--people want to hear her!! -
-
Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Tue, April 6, 2004 - 6:28 AMI only know his work with Esthero. I wouldn't say that is overrated. I sort of remember Res. Came out last summer? More of a commercial album with a track with Nas( Ice kings or some thing?). -

it came out originally in 2001 to silence from the crowd.
they re-released it in 2003 w/a bonus track. the nas thing is a rmx.
sony pushed the hell out of that record. whereas esthero was on the dj krush record, and sony sat on their hands--idiots.
the res record sounds like a second rate "breath from another" with a couple of new sounds. i think esthero sounds better w/o doc, frankly. did you hear the tune she did w/krush? it's called "final home." VERRRY nice. -

Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Wed, April 7, 2004 - 6:34 AMI did. I haven't heard much of Krush's other stuff. Just some of the earlier Mo wax singles. Esthero seems to be one of the few singers that can sing well over a beat without being over the top. -
-
Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Wed, April 7, 2004 - 6:43 AMthe krush mo' wax album to get is "meiso." pretty solid. mc's are tight, and he does a tune w/shadow that's pretty cool too.
"kakusei" (the album w/esthero on sony) is pretty good too. not as good as "meiso," but still worth buying. -

Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Wed, April 7, 2004 - 7:29 AMHas anyone heard Blockhead? I just read a review of his new album.(4stars). He was Aesop Rock's producer but I'm not into the def jux scene. Someone fill me in? -
-
Re: most underrated or overlooked producer
Thu, April 8, 2004 - 3:35 AMthe beats aesop rocks to are bugged out...El-p type stillo. And T you are correct zev love x. I think he's the last living member of KMD (don't quote me on that) and Black Bastards is dope. As far as what makes Madlib dope isn't just oh it's just another madlib beat. He fucks with samples that other producers can't fuck with and he makes them work.
